Position Overview: 

The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding  relationships with high-net-worth individuals, foundations, and corporate donors to secure major financial contributions to support the mission of the organization. This role is vital for advancing the organization’s fundraising strategy, meeting revenue goals, and sustaining growth specifically for our programs focused on Unreached People Groups.  

Key Responsibilities: 

1. Identify and Cultivate Prospective Donors: 

○ Conduct research to identify potential major gift prospects from within the organization's donor database as well as all external sources available.  

○ Develop a comprehensive pipeline of high-net-worth individuals, foundations, and corporations with a capacity for major giving and history of giving to faith-based ministries  

2. Donor Relationship Management: 

○ Cultivate and maintain relationships with donors with frequent communication  and updates ensuring consistent engagement.  

○ Create personalized engagement and solicitation plans for each major donor, aligning their interests with funding opportunities at the organization.

○ Conduct regular meetings, calls, and events with donors to deepen their connection to the organization and mission. 

○ Encourage as many major donors as possible to participate on an organizational vision trip. 

3. Solicitation and Gift Closing:

○ Develop and execute strategies for securing major gifts, including proposal development, presentations, and direct solicitation. 

○ Ensure timely follow-up and accurate documentation for all donor interactions and gifts. 

4. Stewardship and Donor Retention: 

○ Develop and implement a stewardship program to acknowledge and thank major donors for their contributions. 

○ Prepare impact reports and communicate regularly with donors to demonstrate the effect their contributions are having on the organization's UPG programs.  

○ Maintain relationships with existing major donors to encourage ongoing support and increase giving over time. 

5. Collaboration and Strategy Development: 

○ Work with CEO, Grants Manager, and Marketing Director as needed to align major gift efforts with the overall fundraising strategy. 

○ Participate in strategy sessions to identify new opportunities for growth and donor engagement. 

○ Provide input on campaign development and other initiatives to expand the major gift portfolio. 

6. Data Management and Reporting: 

○ Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of major donor interactions, gift commitments, and stewardship activities in the organization’s CRM system (HubSpot). 

○ Prepare regular reports for the CEO and the board, detailing progress toward major gift goals. 

○ Track and analyze fundraising metrics to inform strategy and improve performance.

 

Qualifications: 

● Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (for example, Nonprofit Management, Business, Communications). 

● Minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising, with a proven track record in securing major gifts, preferably in a faith based nonprofit setting. 

● Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with an ability to engage and inspire high-net-worth donors. 

● Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation and proposal writing. 

● Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities. 

● Proficiency in using CRM systems or donor databases for tracking and managing donor information. 

● A passion for the organization’s mission and a commitment to making a meaningful impact.

Preferred Qualifications:

● Experience working with high-capacity donors, foundations, and corporations.

● Knowledge of prospect research methods and tools. 

● Training and certification in fundraising, such as CFRE is a plus.

Paid Holidays: 

The organization recognizes the following paid holidays:  

New Year’s Day, Good Friday (half-day), Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day,  Thanksgiving Day, Friday following Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, MLK, and  four personal days (annually). 

The schedule for taking any vacation time must be approved by Leadership. 

• 1-3 years on Staff: 10 weekdays per year. 

• 4-9 years on Staff: 15 weekdays per year. 

• 10 or more years on Staff: 20 weekdays per year. 

Compensation: $75,000-95,000 DOE
