Position Overview:

We are seeking a visionary and dedicated Executive Director with experience, creativity, and a collaborative approach to lead the organization in the successful implementation of its mission.  

This nonprofit has been serving women and children experiencing homelessness in Birmingham for decades. The agency operates multiple programs including emergency shelter, housing, and childcare serving individuals experiencing homelessness. The Executive Director must have the expertise, energy, and capacity to take our client to the next level in both programming and funding. The successful candidate will have demonstrated success in the areas of nonprofit management, fundraising, community engagement, and collaboration. Birmingham area residency is required for the Executive Director.

Position Requirements:

  1. Oversee the administration, programs, and strategic plan of the agency.

  2. Experience building and executing programs, management, operations, and a deep understanding of cultivating and managing finances from various revenue sources.

  3. Must develop resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the agency.

  4. Must be able to function effectively as part of a team.

  5. Must possess professionalism and tact when interacting with shelter guests, volunteers, co-workers, outside agencies, and corporations.

  6. Work with the board and agency staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning, and community outreach.

  7. Oversee grant management for all grants and contracts.

  8. Prepare, manage, and grow the annual budget.

  9. Model and guide strategies to create a positive working environment and culture across the agency.

  10. Must be a resident of or willing to relocate to the Birmingham, AL area.

 

Professional Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s Degree is required. A Master’s Degree in Social Work, Business Administration, Public Administration or related field is preferred but not required.

  2. 5+ years of nonprofit experience in a senior leadership role.

  3. Demonstrated fundraising experience.

  4. Experience administering federal grant funding.

  5. Experience with organizational planning and program development.

  6. Budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision making and reporting.

  7. An inclusive philosophy with experience working with ethnically and socioeconomically diverse communities.

  8. A deep understanding of foundation, corporate, major donor, and government funding.

  9. Excellent conversational, public speaking, presentation, and writing skills.
